WATCH: Flight 'stuck' in mid-air above Russia airport in viral video optical illusion

The flight seemed to be suspended in the air and not moving in the video.

Taken by a driver in Russia, the car drove forward at speed while the plane appeared stationary.

Usually, when close to the ground, a plane would be expected to be ascending or descending.

Instead, it seemed still in the air, baffling people online.

The footage, taken near Vnukova airport in Moscow, has had more than 40,000 view on YouTube since it was posted yesterday.

The reason behind the weird sighting has resulted in many theories.

Some guessed it was a ‘glitch in the Matrix’, referring to the iconic film series.

Others suggested the pilot had used the handbrake in mid-air as a joke.

However, some had a much more logical reason behind the odd sighting.

It was most likely due to an optical illusion caused by the car and the weather.

Users pointed out that the plane could have been flying at a very low speed before landing.

With high winds blowing against it, this could then make it seem ‘stuck’ thanks to the clear skies.

With a number of vehicles driving in the opposite direction, this also added to the illusion.

A user wrote: “That’s a very common illusion. I see it all the time when driving toward the airport if airplanes are taking off in my direction.”

Another plane optical illusion was recently spotted on Google Maps.

Spotted off the coast of Scotland, a submerged jet appeared underwater on Google Maps.

Robert Morton, 55, spotted the weird sighting near Edinburgh while using Google Earth.

No plane crash has ever been recorded there, leaving people baffled.

However, Robert believed it was simply a “Google anomaly” as opposed to a conspiracy theory and was simply a plane flying overhead.
